The STARR™ Treatment

Los Angeles, Irvine, and Riverside, California

Recent advances in bariatric surgery techniques and technology have led to the development of the STARR™ (Surgical Tiny Access and Rapid Recovery) Treatment – a procedure specially designed to enhance LAP-BAND® surgery and the laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. This new technique allows Dr. Dahiya to perform your surgery through a single, hardly visible incision.

Thanks to the STARR™ procedure, you can experience a weight loss surgery with a quicker recovery, a minimal amount of pain, and superior aesthetic results.

STARR™ vs. Traditional Weight Loss Procedures

During traditional weight loss surgeries, the surgeon must use four to six incisions on your abdominal area to complete the procedure. With the STARR™ Treatment, the entire procedure can be completed through one tiny incision that is discreetly made in your belly button.

This is made possible through the advanced SPIDER® Surgical System. The SPIDER® device is the width of a dime, making it ideal for minimally-invasive laparoscopic surgeries. This system is able to deliver all of the tools needed to perform your procedure through the STARR™ Treatment’s single incision – including the tiny camera that lets Dr. Dahiya clearly observe the procedure as it takes place.

Once your bariatric surgery is completed, the tools and the camera will both be retracted through the same incision.

Candidates for the STARR™ Treatment

During a thorough initial examination, Dr. Dahiya will help you decide on the specific type of weight loss surgery that would best fit your needs and lifestyle. If the STARR™ Treatment is compatible with your chosen weight loss surgery, you can take advantage of a faster recovery, less overall pain, and a single, barely noticeable scar.

However, as with all types of surgeries, the STARR™ Treatment comes with certain potential risks. Speak with Dr. Dahiya about these risks, and about what you should expect individually from the treatment. If necessary, Dr. Dahiya may use more than one incision during your bariatric surgery.
